The owners of this property wanted a house extension to improve its ‘kerb appeal’, extend the master bedroom and create a wow-factor kitchen/dining/family room. Some creative thinking was needed to create a traditional extension to this Arts & Crafts design with an unusual ‘jettied’, first floor extension, which completely met the brief.
An unusual jettied extension & double storey bay window in brick & tile hanging, add warmth and depth to the street facing elevations.
The original front elevation was flat with little colour & exposed pipework. Our challenge was to improve the look whilst making the required changes internally.
The proposed ground floor plan shows the enlarged master suite projecting out over the study & utility spaces, along with the bay windows and extended kitchen. Large rooflights and slim framed patio doors fill the extended kitchen/dining/family room with light.
We often use hand drawn sketches or a quick and simple 3D massing model to help our clients visualise the proposals being made at an early design stage.
The kitchen extension included a large sociable island, simple plastered walls and oak herringbone flooring. The slimline sliding patio doors & square rooflights bathe the room in light, whilst a large roof overhang prevents overheating in the height of the summer.
