Cox Martin Design have worked on a number of Community projects. These proposals for a city centre church & a rural village hall are examples of such projects.

We were asked to look at proposals for the interiors of the new community hub in Portsmouth.
Multifunctional spaces can be complex to design; furniture, lighting and acoustics need to be carefully considered and designed for different uses and user groups. These initial proposals looked at how to zone & sub divide the spaces for different uses, and the type of materials that could be used.

The sketch design for the ceiling proposals shows lighting, acoustic rafts & feature roof lights. Often acoustics can be overlooked but is really important in a large space such as a church or village hall, which often has predominantly hard surfaces.

Working with a local village community shop we designed a new building which would allow them to relocate and expand their offering to the community. With the shop and 'back of house' areas to the front, the rear accommodates a self-contained cafe that can spill out to the park in good weather.

Internal sliding screens allow the cafe to be separated off at night, so it can be hired out by groups or individuals. The full height ceiling over the cafe area, and large windows overlooking the park make it an attractive space to be in.
